St. Mary the Virgin, Witney
The Parish Church of St. Mary's was
founded in 1243 and the Bishop of Winchester had his Palace nearby. It
was this fact and the affluence of the wool merchants in the middle ages
which resulted in the very large building. The dominant spire may be seen
for miles around.
